The Institution has facilities for alternate sources of energy and energy conservation measures.
UIT provides an alternate energy source designed to work on cloudy days, in part sun, and even in wintery environments, solar panels can generate a significant amount of power for institutions that install them. Here we use it for pumping applications. The solar energy materials like, (10-250 Watts solar panel and 3HP solar pumping system) used.
UIT provides Solar Street lights require much less maintenance compared to conventional street lights. Since external wires are eliminated, risk of accidents is minimized. Electricity produced from solar panels is non-pollute. Separate parts of a solar panel system can easily be transported. Therefore UIT College can solar street lights are used for pathway between college buildings to hostel building.
UIT provides the solar water heaters mounted in both hostels for saving energy. It is installed on our UIT campus in a convenient area at (Boys & Girls – Hostels). Solar hi-tech 500 litres stainless steel outer tank and solar water tube arrangements.
UIT authorities have installed a biogas plant on the college campus to process food waste and other biodegradable garbage generated on the campus. We opted for a biogas plant because it serves the dual purpose of processing the waste and providing cooking gas for the college canteen, in our institute. Here One number circular BIOGAS – DIGESTER TANK of (75 M^3) capacity with infiltration pit for digested effluent water near North boundary, besides Dining Hall.
Due to the constant use of electricity, the lighting bills of college exceed the allocated budget. So it becomes essential for college administration to save electricity costs by installing energy - efficient LED lighting fixtures. It decreases energy consumption and saves the cost of maintenance, for the light-emitting diode (LED) is today's most energy-efficient and rapidly-developing lighting technology. Quality LED light bulbs last longer, are more durable, and offer comparable or better light quality than other types of lighting. Our campus used LED bulbs 90 watts for street lighting, (12 & 9) watts for Staircases and floorings etc.
