The Department was started in the year 2009 and two batches of students were passed out. The department is functioning with 26 teaching faculty members and 5 laboratory technicians, all are well qualified and vast experienced.

The Department is continuously striving to achieve excellence in education, in academic and industry oriented projects as well as in research.

The students are provided with a perfect blend of intellectual and practical experiences that help them to serve our society and address a variety of needs. The laboratory facilities to cater to the needs of the syllabus and beyond are available. Multi-media facilities and Over Head Projector for all class rooms enhancing the teaching learning process effectively.

Computer Aided Design (Cad) Laboratory

It is one of the most advanced student computer labs on the UIT campus. The laboratory is used by students for 2D drawings preparation, 3D modeling and assembly drawings.

The lab also utilized for projects and to convert their creative idea into a 3D model by designing, modeling and analysis.

 
Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) Laboratory I&II

Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) is the use of computer software to control machine tools and related machinery in the manufacturing of work piece.

We have a CNC – Slant Bed Lathe and a CNC – Milling Machine in CAM Laboratory. Both the machines are bench – type and demonstrated to the students during their laboratory sessions using simple part programs.

The demonstration enables the students to acquire basic knowledge on the construction and operation of CNC machines.

 
Engineering Practices Laboratory

Mechanical engineers research develops, design, and manufacture machines, and other mechanical devices for the benefit of society. The laboratory gives hands on experience on the various tools to be used and exercises to be practiced in the application of engineering practices in each field.

Students get exposure to various welding practices, sheet metal exercises, machining operations in mechanical engineering practice. In-addition they also get trained up in plumbing and carpentry exercises as a part of civil engineering practice.

 
Thermal Engineering Laboratory - I

The primary purpose of the laboratory ‘THERMAL ENGINEERING’ is to show students the experimental methods on thermal energies on various engines and demonstrate their operational procedures.

These values can be further used to determine other fuel properties..

In order that students have a fairly good understanding of the theory underlying the experiments, the entire course is designed such that classroom lectures precede lab work.

 
Thermal Engineering Laboratory - II

Thermal engineering laboratory - II is help to learn the heat transfer phenomena and predict the relevant coefficient using implementation. And also study about the performance of refrigeration cycle / components

It facilitates the students to demonstrate the fundamentals of heat and predict the coefficient used in that transfer application and also design refrigeration cycle.

 
Mechatronics Laboratory

Mechatronics is the synergetic combination of mechanical, electrical, electronics and computer science engineering. Mechatronics Engineering Laboratory was established in the academic year 2012-13.

It is equipped with all required and essential equipment to cater the need of syllabus based requirements and various projects.

 
Dynamics Laboratory

To supplement the theoretical knowledge gained in Kinematics of Machinery and Dynamics of Machinery with practical hands on exposure to students in the various equipments like dynamic balancing, gyroscope, governor, vibration measurement, whirling of shaft, cam analyzer, vibrating table, turn table, flywheel, bifilar suspension, trifilar suspension, compound pendulum, four bar mechanism, gear train and universal joint.

 
Manufacturing Technology -1

The Manufacturing Technology -1 Laboratory includes facilities to demonstrate and explore examples of casting, moulding, forming, machining, heat-treating, and joining processes.

The laboratory includes a variety of instruments for measurement of process variables and product quality variables.

The Manufacturing Technology 1 Laboratory also provides facilities for students to carry out process and product design projects in many courses.

 
Manufacturing Technology -2

Laboratory provides students with the opportunity to study and practice manufacturing processes

This laboratory provides students with experiential learning of the nature and technique of manufacturing processes.

Students can set up and operate machines, manufacture parts, measure process variables, and inspect manufactured parts.

Learning from lab experiences is integrated with prior and subsequent learning of other engineering topics such as engineering materials and quality planning and control.

 
Metrology Laboratory

Metrology Laboratory provides opportunities to students to gain hands-on the experiences and experimentation in the important of use of the major metrology equipment’s, measurement methods and procedures. These measurements include data such as mass, velocity, displacement, pressure, strain, torque and temperature.
